Diane, Diahann! An Ode to Dynamic Women

Updated: Apr 10

Let's put a finishing touch to Women's History Month by highlighting two powerful women who truly set themselves apart. Diane Von Furstenburg and Diahann Carroll have various commonalities setting aside their namesakes. Both women hold iconic, trailblazing accolades. They are class acts filled with fabulosity and poise. Both are aspirational and inspirational in the fashion and entertainment realms. Making statements that are lasting from generation to generation with their polished exteriors, it's an understatement to say these women are timeless. Essentially these women are bogged with beauty and intellect and in their respective fields, are a force.

Life imitating art, adeptly mirroring Dominique Deveraux, Diahann wore many hats. A phenomenal songstress, versatile actress, and activist, she nailed every role in her life. Whether Ms. Carroll was on screen or on stage, there was a performative treat for the audience to delight in. She was the first African American actress to star in her own television series who did not play a domestic worker; championing and serving as a catalyst for black actresses to land deserving roles. Diahann Carroll's name is sounded and respected amongst the greats. Diahann is one of our favorite women in history simply because if she were here today she could hold a brilliant Masterclass on sophistication and elegance. And don't we all admire a woman who stands for something and doesn't compromise?

Diane Von Furstenburg is the master of the K.I.S.S. method , which to us means "keep it simple sweetie". The simplicity of Diane's designs exemplify a powerful timeless appeal. Diane was able to create a fashion silhouette that had a feminie aesthetic that allowed women to move freely from day to evening, from the boardroom to dinner; or a cocktail party. Diane Von Furstenburg is one of our favorite women in history because of her ability to transcend time by being as relevant years ago as she is now; taking note of her recent launch of statement fashions and homegoods at Target. She has affordable pieces as well as customizable furniture options in an array of prints to choose from. This collaboration is a testament to Target's ability to be a forerunner in the industry at acknowledging trendsetters. Her knit dresses are just as fresh and youthful now as they were when she introduced them to Vogue in the 70s. She has a focused yet balanced presence in business and in personal. Furstenburg's brand "DVF", is synonymous with contemporary pieces that express a sense of longevity.

Diane, Diahann, we remember and honor them both. Even though their successful orbits were in different genres, they eclipsed many others on their journeys to sophisticated genius. They are the ultimate dynamic diva duo. We want to thank them for inspiring women past, present and future. Even though we are celebrating Women's History Month, here at TRAPATES we feel that womanhood should be celebrated everyday.
