Meaning of TRAPATES

Just in case you're not hip yet, "TRAPATES" is "set apart" backwards. I will never forget the conversation I was having with my best friend Ariana a couple years ago. Ariana is my "cousin sister boo bestie", and one of my muses. I was talking to her about some of my struggles with my convictions, and she said that as Christians we are called to be "set apart". And when that phrase came out of her mouth, something alarmed in me. Set apart described my target audience to a crisp. Ariana has been the muse for my hypothetical clothing brand since my freshman year of college. I remember my very first impression of her. We were apart of the S.I.S.T.E.R.S living learning community on campus. During an introductory ice-breaker she enthusiastically stood up with her oh so bright smile and said "I'm Ariana, and I love Jesus!" I admired her from that day on. She was always set apart, bringing the "new flavor in your ear" all the way from Long Island.

When coming up with names for my dream brand I knew that "set apart" had to be apart of its DNA. "What does it look like reversed?" I asked myself. And how is it pronounced? Well I decided to leave it up to the reader. Ariana pronounces it "Trapay". I would love to hear your initial pronunciation.

Trapates means many things.

To be TRAPATES is to be .....

Timeless

Renewed

Authentic

Peculiar yet Pulled-together

Atypical

Tasteful

Eclectic

Soulful

To be TRAPATES is to be

Transformed

Radiant

Ageless

Propelled

Adventurous

Trendsetting

Enlightened

Sublime

What does TRAPATES look like to you? To me it looks like the tastemakers of past generations; Diana Ross, Cher and, Aretha Franklin. TRAPATES looks like Bianca Jagger wearing an Yves Saint Laurent suit and wide-brim hat as her highly referenced wedding look in 1971. TRAPATES looks like Christopher John Roger's 2022 Resort collection exploding in color and volume. Trapates folks like pineapples on their pizza. Wink.

My hopes for this blog is that it will encourage the reader to be the set apart light in this world of darkness. To embolden them to dare to be TRAPATES everyday!
